I CRU AUTOCTONI

The new identity of the Cavazza company
The new generation at the helm of the Cavazza di Montebello company, in the Vicenza area, rethinks its identity starting from the new "crus" of the Identità line which rhymes with native varieties.
One step at a time. One step after another, with the patience of the farmer and the tenacity of the marathon runner. The Cavazza family, a winemaking company from Vicenza founded in 1928 between the reference points of the Berici Hills and Gambellara, has worked hard over the decades to achieve considerable quality levels both in the vineyard and in the cellar. From the renewal of vineyard systems, to technological improvement, to the lengthening of aging times, research has never stopped. From Giovanni and Augusta to Domenico and Pietro. From Domenico and Pietro to Giovanni, Luigi, Giancarlo and Francesco and from them to the fourth generation, made up of cousins Stefano, Andrea, Mattia and Elisa, who have collected the legacy of their ancestors which today has around 130 hectares of vineyards and 600 thousand bottles distributed for 60% abroad. “It is a story that we carry forward with pride – reveals this new generation – and for this reason, respectful of our entrepreneurial history and winemaking tradition, we have decided to tell our story in a more incisive way through a strong renewal of the one that it is the visual identity”. An evolutionary path that led to a rebranding project with the aim of shedding light on the values of the Cavazza Wine company.
THE NATIVE CRU
The first products that will be revealed in the coming months are precisely the "cru" of the Identità line. Products from native vines, such as Garganega or Tai Rosso, eager to speak across generations of consumers. “The new visual identity we have chosen reflects what we are today – explains Stefano Cavazza – a reality projected into the future but which does not want to forget the results achieved by those who preceded us. Our renewal process began a few years ago. We wanted to take a further step to make our productions, our values and our commitment to the territory that we carry forward every day more and more known".
TWO TERRITORIES, TWO LANDS
The grape production territories are located in two completely different wine-growing areas from the point of view of microclimate and terroir. On the one hand there are the Gambellara hills of volcanic origin, mainly basaltic, which reflect a mineral imprint on the wines. On the other side there are the Berici Hills with the vineyards located in the municipality of Alonte, where the hills have marine origins and the soil, with limestone rock and red clay soils, is suited to the production of red grape wines. The origins of the company are rooted in the land of Gambellara: the vineyards acquired after the Second World War today reach around forty hectares in the denomination. Garganega is the native vine that has found its fundamental nourishment in this volcanic land. The Gambellara area is very rich in minerals such as basalt, iron, magnesium and potassium, and in further micro elements that act as nourishment for the vines and as a natural barrier against soil diseases. The volcanic rocks on which the vineyards grow are fundamental for the root system, as they are characterized by macro porosity that allow water resources to be stored up to 100% of their weight, releasing the water very slowly.

Bocara, pure Garganega, as well as Corallo, pure red Tai, have a characteristic organoleptic imprint, in particular in the olfactory component, which makes the Cavazza version distinguishable from these varieties. In particular, Tai Rosso reveals a delicate, silky texture, with floral aromas and a medium-strength body. The journey through Merlot makes us appreciate its great evolutionary capabilities: from the almost ripe red fruit, still a little crunchy, of 2018, to the jam of 2008, added, in the latter, to hints of spices, sweet tobacco, balsamic and menthol . The Capitel remains a very welcome confirmation with the persuasiveness and drinkability of the house Gambellara passito.
